
DuPreez Strauss
Musical Director (Beware: Bernadette! A Musical Fable)
DuPreez Strauss is pleased to be making his New York music
directing debut with the Harmony Theatre Company. Originally
from South Africa, Mr. Strauss recently completed the music
direction for the international tours of Children's Letters to God (2005
Best Musical Nomination) and Mercury Rising (2003 Best Musical
Award). Other music direction credits include Sweeney Todd, Cabaret,
Bat Boy, Big: The Musical, The Boys from Syracuse, and The Wizard of Oz,
Mr. Strauss holds cum laude Bachelor's Degrees from the University
of the Free State (Best Music Student Award) and the University of
Stellenbosch, as well as a Master's Degree from the University of
Stellenbosch, where he was also the resident musical director for the
Drama Department. Additionally, he is a cum laude graduate of the
Royal Schools of Music and the University of South Africa (Joubert
Award for the Best Three Students in South Africa), both in Classical
Piano. As a performer, Mr. Strauss has starred in the soap operas
Scandal ("Dean") and Egoli, as well as Wild Room, AM World, Dis hoe
dit is met Steve, Befonk, and as an on-air personality on RSFM's The
DuPreez Strauss Show. He performed in Rock around the Clock and
Bloubloed en Biltong. Mr. Strauss has numerous commercial credits
(including for Coke, American Express, and Reebok), is currently
recording an album entitled MercuroChrome, has had his artwork
featured in exhibitions in London, Johannesburg, and Cape Town,
and worked with the director of The Apprentice, Pop Idol, and Fear
Factor on television show conceptualization. Also an accomplished
composer, Mr. Strauss has both composed and music directed Little
Dahlings, a musical based on beloved writer Roald Dahl, and was
selected to performed his own compositions for President Njoma of
Namibia (Windhoek) and President Mbeki of South Africa (Durban).
